Recasting the mast foot.

Here is a step by step guide. This should help but any questions let me know.

Here is a quick run through on how I do it.

You will need the following tools and equipment.

Rubber gloves

Mold release can send you a pic of what I use if needed.

Epoxy resin and fast hardener

Scales

Rags

Level

Blu tack

Rubber mullet

Masking tape

Stanley blade

Step 1: tape up your mast so the resin does not get onto the mast itself, you only want resin on the mast foot. You should be able to see where the line is for the depth.

Step 2: get your fuse and put the mold release in the socket area, follow the steps on the mold releases. If you do exactly as it says it will not stick. These days I cut corners on this and only quickly rub one coat on super thin and it still works perfect.

3: Put the blu tack in the holes making sure they are sealed, you do not want resin in the holes so make sure there are no gaps that it could squeeze into.

4: Tape up your fuse, put Blu tack in the holes as well and just tape everywhere that you do not want resin on, easier to just peel tape of than it is to try and get resin off where it should not be. You want to make sure when you pour resin into this socket that it can not leak out the bottom( very important)

5: set your fuse up with a wing on so it’s nice and level. I do this on the ground as I find it easier later on.

6:Give the foot of the mast a light sand just so the resin can make a good bond. Wipe the sust of with a wet rag and then do not tough the foot area again with bare hands.

7: Mix your resin exactly how it says to on the container, weighing it is the best way to get it right. You will only need to mix 20-30g of resin as not much is needed.

8: Pour some resin into the fuse socket, put your rubber gloves on and make sure the entire socket is wet so use your finger or a small brush to wipe it up the sides.

9: Use your fingers still in the glove or a brush to wet the end of the mast foot completely, make sure no dry spots. You need to make sure both surfaces are fully wet with resin otherwise you will get air bubbles and the finish won’t be that great.

10: Slowly push the mast into the socket slowly, resin should put over the top when you push It right in. Once right in place a 5kg weight on top of the mast so it stays pushing right down.

11: check it is all level and if not use the level to get it correct. If it’s not massively loose then this should not really be an issue. You can run tape over the top to hold in place but I never have to do this.

12: Get a rag and wipe all the excess resin of now, pay real attention to around where the mast and fuse join and get it as clean as you can. If you do this step right then you will not need to touch it again with and sanding.

13: Let it dry overnight.

14: get a rubber mallet and give some taps on both fronts and back of the fuse, it should start moving as soon as it starts moving place it back on the ground , I stand on mine with a foot on either side and then just pull the mast straight up, wiggling it a bit of needed.

15: pull the tape off, if you wiped all the rain of in step 12 correctly it should just peel of easy as , if you still have resin on the tape it may rip and you might need a Stanley blade to help or a very light sand but easier to just do step 12 right haha.

That is it it should fit super tight again.

Any questions just let me know.
